A postdoc position at the Section of Forensic Chemistry (RKA), Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, is available from August 1th, 2023. The position is for two years.
RKA performs forensic chemistry investigations for the eastern part of Denmark, though alcohol in the traffic is for the whole country. RKA conducts applied research and development projects in cooperation with other laboratories within Denmark and abroad and teaches forensic chemistry at pre-and postgraduate courses.
RKA has a number of applied forensic chemistry projects running, e.g. in vitro metabolism studies on new psychoactive substances (NPS), screening development by LC-high-resolution-MS, metabolomics, measurement in alternative matrices, and epidemiological studies.
The laboratory is well-equipped with LC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS instruments and robotics instruments for automated sample preparation. There is also a lab-unit for handling of cells, e.g. hepatocytes. The laboratory is accredited according to ISO17025.

Job description
- The postdoc will have a research and development project concerning data handling with regard to metabolomics and screening development by LC-high-resolution-MS.
- The postdoc will take part in the supervision of PhD, master, and bachelor students at RKA.
- Important aspects will also be fund-raising and presentations of the activities of RKA in both scientific and more popular contexts.
- The applicant is expected to have a master's degree and a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or similar.
- The applicant is supposed to be a highly motivated and interacting person, who is willing to share knowledge and expertise with the other members of our research group, and generally be a contributing member of the research group.
- The candidate is expected to have prior experience with LC-MS, preferably LC-HRMS including LC-HRMS data analysis. Experience with data analysis is general-purpose programming languages such as R or Python is an advantage. Previous experience in the development of grant applications and/or obtaining ethical approval of research projects is also recognized.
The appointment is for two years and can begin August 1th, 2023 or thereafter. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 36,000 DKK/approx. 4,800 EUR (April 2023 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
