PhD fellowships in Organic Chemistry
PhD Projects in organic synthesis and cyclodextrin chemistry
Department of Chemistry
Faculty of SCIENCE
University of Copenhagen
The department of chemistry invites applicants for one or two PhD fellowships in organic synthesis of cyclodextrin derivatives. The project is is part of a research program directed at finding artificial enzymes and is financed by the DFF.
Start date is October 1 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The project
Artificial enzymes are small organic molecules with enzyme like catalytic properties. The goal of the project is to transform cyclodextrins into artifial enzymes that can bind and catalyse difficult transformations such as the selective oxidation of alkanes including the green house gas methane. The Ph.d. fellow will design and synthesize new cyclodextrins derivatives and study their binding and catalytic properties.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates in organic chemist with a background as chemists, chemical engineers or similar. Training in organic synthesis is necessary and experience with structural elucidation with NMR is an advantage.
Our group and research- and what do we offer?
The phd project will be carried out in the research group of Professor Mikael Bols at the department of chemistry. The group is a part of the department of chemistry at the Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. We are located in Copenhagen.
We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and access to state of the art equipment.
Principal supervisor is Professor Mikael Bols, Department of chemistry, bols@chem.ku.dk, Direct Phone: +45 28750160.
The PhD programme is a three year full-time study within the framework of the regular PhD programme (5+3 scheme). You must have an education equivalent to a relevant Danish master’s degree.
