About Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen
Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) is a diabetes hospital and a research and development organization dedicated to delivering world-class treatment, research, and education in diabetes and related fields. For over 92 years, SDCC has been internationally recognized as a leader in clinical diabetes research and treatment. SDCC treats approximately 11,000 people with diabetes annually, including all 1,000 children and adolescents with diabetes in the Capital Region of Denmark. This makes it one of Northern Europe’s largest diabetes hospitals. SDCC maintains numerous regional, national, and international collaborations.

SDCC was established through a partnership between the Capital Region of Denmark and the Novo Nordisk Foundation, which provides funding for clinical research, development, and education. SDCC operates as a public hospital under the Capital Region of Denmark.

The Role
The position of Head of Clinical and Translational Research is pivotal for both the success of the department and the realization of SDCC’s overall mission.

As the department head, you will play a central role in advancing research and fostering a world-class environment. You will be responsible for the department’s operations and development, setting its strategic direction in alignment with SDCC’s overarching goal of being a world-leading diabetes hospital and research organization that benefits the entire healthcare system.

The department comprises 170 employees across five units. This includes 14 professors, 12 senior researchers, 18 postdocs, 41 PhD students, and 4 administrative staff. The department operates with a core budget of approximately 50 million DKK, supplemented by an additional 60 million DKK annually in externally secured competitive funding.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate:

- Has an established research profile equivalent to a professor or associate professor level, with international experience.

- Possesses experience in organizational and research leadership.

- Holds a health science background, for example a medical doctor.

- Has an interest in or knowledge of diabetes and related areas.

- Is visionary, ambitious, and strategically minded.

- Thrives in a complex organization with high professional standards and expectations.

Salary and Employment Conditions
The position is classified at the level of Chief Physician or equivalent level for non-physicians.
