A clinical position as consultant of Clinical Oncology at the Department of Oncology at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Clinical Oncology with special focus on Radiotherapy of Metastatic Cancer at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department The Department of Oncology is localized at Copenhagen University Hospital - Herlev and Gentofte, a highly specialized public hospital, who cover most medical specialist areas, as well as cancer treatment in all organ-systems. The department serves the region/country for specialized and highly specialized functions.
The Department of Oncology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Herlev and Gentofte is responsible for the non-surgical treatment modalities of adult patients with solid tumours according to international accepted guidelines and standards. It is one out of five oncological expert centres in Denmark. The core values are being the front of cancer treatment, care and research.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department The Department of Oncology is divided into six clinics, each of which is led interdisciplinary by a senior physician, senior nurse and a secretary. In addition, Radiation Therapy represents an independent area, led by a senior physician, a chief physicist and a senior nurse.
The vacant position is to be filled by a broadly trained and experienced specialist in oncology with expertise in radiotherapy, especially in radiotherapy of metastatic disease.
The applicant must work in Clinic 1, and deal with the treatment of patients with lung cancer. Emphasis will be on the future senior physician being able to take care of this patient group.
Emphasis will also be on qualifications within communication and the ability to collaborate both interdisciplinary and with collaborating departments.
Research and teaching We expect the applicant to:
- take care of general and special clinical oncology functions by obtaining and interpreting information, making clinical decisions and performing procedures within the specialty's work areas
- ensure high quality in patient processes in collaboration with other staff groups
- collaborate on patient treatment and processes in multidisciplinary groups at the hospital, in the region, nationally and internationally
- be active in the department's development work and participates in the department's management tasks, including strategic work
- help ensure the department’s research, development and pre/post-graduate teaching at an international level in collaboration with the department's other senior doctors and the department management
- collaborate both interdisciplinary and with collaborating departments
Qualifications Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Clincial Oncology.
Conditions In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Oncology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Oncology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Oncology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte.
