BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic bioinformatician to join our group and extensive industry & clinical networks to understand genomic changes in the human germline that result in miscarriage and congenital disorders in humans. The position is for 4 years to commence on 1 September 2023, or after agreement.
Information about the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) can be found at: https://icmm.ku.dk/english/.
Our research
We develop and utilize statistical models, machine learning and imputation algorithms that allow us to map human recombination events and chromosomal aberrations in human embryos and eggs in high resolution. We integrate our tools with existing approaches to create a high throughput computational pipeline running on a computer cluster. The output of this pipeline provides us with features of human meiosis that we further combine with existing genomics data using simulation experiments.
The information from our data science experiments and pipelines help us to answer about what drives human meiosis and what are the factors and patterns that can lead to chromosomal errors.

Your job
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and run pipelines for genetic analyses of human embryos and oocytes in HPC environment.
- Test and implement extensions to our in-house algorithms for phasing as well as detection of meiotic recombination sites and chromosomal aberrations in embryos.
- Simulation analyses on the data, including integration with population genetics.
- Communicate results of the data analyses using reports and visualization tools for high-end publications.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- Experience with implementing statistical and machine learning models on (single cell) genomics data.

- Experience working with git.
- Experience with bioinformatics workflow management systems such as snakemake.
- Experience with computing on HPC and using scheduling systems such as slurm.
- Experience working with SNP arrays and preferably whole genome sequencing data.
- Data management plans and curation required for publications in high impact journals.
- Basic knowledge of human genetics and human meiosis.
- Ability to communicate and collaboration with wetlab scientists and computational scientists.
- You have a PhD in bioinformatics or machine learning or with a significant component thereof.
- Experience from similar positions such as Bioinformatic Platforms / Core facilities.
The employment as a bioinformatician is a full-time position (37 working hours per week in average) and a fixed-term position for 4 years. Starting date is 1 September 2023, or after agreement.
Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
